It's late autumn in my part of the world, and here and there among the evergreens the deciduous trees are changing colour. I love gingko trees - here since the time of the dinosaurs, an evolutionary success story.
Apart from the elegant shape of their leaves, as they change from green to yellow they look like they've put on pretty party dresses. Autumn light sharpens and intensifies their colours to jewel brightness, and as the days get colder the gingko has one last hurrah before their long winter sleep.
